 local comedy writer, Allison Connor, our new commercial titled, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gOARs0NUjc">No Gimmicks</a> stars our chairman, Mr. Dickey and our advertising expert,
 Edna. Our “ad expert” Edna recommended gimmicks like dressing up Mr. Dickey as a cowboy, clown, king, pig, turkey and even a biker!

 television spots, radio advertisements and a digital campaign. We even have a new nifty tagline, you might have already seen, “We Speak Barbecue.”


 You may wonder why we are doing all of this? Well, we wanted to share our passion and dedication to the art of great barbecue with all of you. We’re excited to show our slow smoking process that
 starts long before you arrive….14 hours before to be exact. And, we also had a lot of fun doing it!

 July is National Picnic Month and at Dickey’s we kind of think of ourselves as the picnic experts. To prove it, we even have a <a href="https://www.dickeys.com/menu">Picnic Pack</a> available all
 year long which feeds between two to four and includes a pound of meat, two medium sides, rolls and our amazing barbecue sauce.


 Barbecue is the perfect meal for a picnic, but we know many of you may not know how to picnic like an expert – so here’s how:

 </li>

 Baseball always has Barbecue's back. 


 Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game last night got us thinking about what makes Barbecue and Baseball such a perfect pair. 


 They’re Both Cheap Dates


 You got a stick, a ball and an empty parking lot? Baseball is good to go. Barbecue requires quality meat, slathered in sauce and cooked to perfection. It’s still cheaper than a filet.


 They’re Popular


 We all want to think the popular guy dates the nerd, but that’s not normally the case. Baseball holds the title of America’s National Sport and Barbecue holds the unclaimed title of America’s
 National Dish….we’re still working on that one.


 Opposites Attract


 We know Yankees and Rangers fans have very little in common, but sometimes that’s all you need.


 They’re Around the Same Age


 Both barbecue and baseball share a lot of history. Nothing bring back memories like sitting at a baseball game with your dad or sharing a plate of saucy ribs with Uncle Dan.

With the World Cup coming to an end this weekend, we thought we would share some of the most memorable moments from this year’s games. At Dickey’s Barbecue, we take all sports pretty seriously and
 we know you guys do too.  We’re pretty sure everyone is impressed by Tim Howard’s saves. Just like Dickey’s Barbecue, Howard set a record with the most saves ever in a World Cup game. We may not have that, but we do have
 titles like the World’s Largest Barbecue Chain.  And we have our own version of the hat trick.

 Probably the most memorable moment was when Luis Suarez confused Giorgio Chiellini’s shoulder for a Pork Shoulder. I’m sure that’s why he looks so disappointed, it couldn’t have
 tasted the same.

 Mexico’s Coach Miguel Herrera’s constant enthusiasm is similar to what we experience each day around lunch time at one of our over 400 locations.

 Another memorable moment was the loss of host country, Brazil. The sadness and frustration of Brazilians was hard to shake. We imagine this is what it’s like when your office gets catering from the
 café across the street…..again. All you wanted was Dickey’s and we get that -- don’t cry.

 It was a little rough when we saw Brazilian kids crying during the game, but we bet this is what it looks like when kids get taken to restaurants that don’t offer free ice cream.
 Very very sad.


 I’m sure we’ll get to catch a few more memorable moments during the last games this weekend. Remember, America may not have made it to the finals, but we sure did set a record! Cheers!

Why We Love Summer at Dickey’s Barbecue:

Father’s day is right around the corner and at Dickey’s we know a thing or two about fathers.  Dickey’s Barbecue is a third generation family-run restaurant. In 1941, Travis Dickey opened the
 first Dickey’s Barbecue Pit.  His sons, Roland and T.D. Dickey, Jr. would roll tamales for a quarter an hour at the original store on Henderson, which is still there today. In 1967, the
 brothers took over the family business when their father unexpectedly passed away. Continuing their father's legacy of quality, hickory-smoked signature meats, Roland and T.D., Jr. expanded the
 business opening a second location and then a third.


 Following tradition, Roland Dickey instilled the love of food in to his own sons.  He put Cullen and Roland Jr. to work on the weekends peeling potatoes and working the cash register. Today,
 Roland Jr. serves as the president and CEO of Dickey’s Barbecue Restaurants, Inc. He shares the same passion for slow smoke barbecue that his father and grandfather did before him.

Barbecue in their Blood: Three Generations of Fathers and Sons

At Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, we see National Iced Tea Day as just another reason to celebrate the perfect drink for slow smoked Texas barbecue. Miss Ollie Dickey,
 mother of Roland and Travis Dickey, was known for her sweet southern charm and delicious sun tea made right on her front porch. Nothing tasted better on those hot southern days than Miss
 Ollie’s Tea and it became a Dickey family favorite.


 Now, everyone can enjoy Miss Ollie's famous tea at Dickey’s Barbecue Pit. Miss Ollie’s Tea is full of flavor, with a crisp and captivating taste that keeps you coming back for more.  In honor
 of National Iced Tea Day, here are some fun facts you can use to impress your friends and coworkers:

 <li>Tea is nearly 5,000 years old! Chinese Emperor Shen-Nung discovered tea in 2737 BC, when according to legend some tea leaves accidentally blew into the Emperor’s pot of boiling water.
 </li>
 <li>Tea is the most widely consumed drink following water
 </li>
 <li>United States cookbooks dating back as early as 1839 have recipes for iced tea with the earliest being The Kentucky Housewife 
 </li>
 <li>According to the Tea Association of the United States, approximately 85% of tea consumed in America is iced! On any given day, over 158 million Americans are drinking tea.
 </li>
 <li>The United States is responsible for the tea bag! In 1904 tea importer, Thomas Sullivan became annoyed at the high cost of the tin boxes he used to send tea samples to customers and switched to
 small cloth bags. One of the recipients brewed a pot of tea by simply pouring hot water over the bag — and the rest is history!
 </li>
 <li>In 2003, Georgia state representative John Noel tried to pass a house bill making it mandatory for all restaurants to serve sweet tea.
 </li>

In the summer of 2004 the folks from “Live with Regis &amp; Kelly” invited Mr. Dickey to cook for their All American Grill Friday segment.&nbsp; The crew set-up a grill outside, which was interesting with all the busy happenings in the Big Apple.&nbsp; Mr. Dickey brought mouthwaterin’, good ol’ fashion Texas steaks to streets of New York. At the time, Dickey’s Barbecue was only in six states with 52 locations. Thirteen years later we are in 43 states with 416 locations! Here are some Mr. Dickey highlights from the clip:
